Northern Rivers vacancies on iworkfor.nsw.gov.au use the NSW Public Sector Capability Framework. The groups are Personal Attributes, Relationships, Results and Business Enablers, plus People Management when the role leads staff. The focus capabilities and the clerk grade are on the role description. Grades run from Clerk Grade 1/2 and 3/4 through 5/6, 7/8, 9/10 and 11/12, then Senior Executive bands where an agency advertises one.

Regional service roles are often Grade 3/4 to 7/8: processing, casework, community programs, school support, compliance and local coordination. Grade 9/10 work is where a panel looks for a function across more than one town. Writing a Grade 5/6 casework example as if it were a central-agency brief, or writing a policy paragraph for a frontline recovery role, misses the level. The panel can tell the difference.

Clinical jobs in Northern NSW Local Health District use NSW Health awards, not the clerk scale. Corporate roles in the district can be clerk-graded. Councils, including Lismore City Council, use local government awards and their own application forms. Federal roles, including Services Australia, use APSJobs. Three public employers in one region means three sets of labels.

Northern NSW Local Health District includes Lismore Base Hospital, the referral hospital for much of the region, and the Tweed Valley Hospital, which opened as the new major hospital at the northern end of the district. Byron Central Hospital, Ballina, Casino, Grafton Base and Maclean are other sites. A résumé that says 'Northern Rivers hospital' and never names the campus hides the acuity and the team.

Lismore Base is where applicants need to show referral work, emergency, surgery, maternity, mental health or medicine at a regional tertiary level. Tweed Valley is a different campus and a different catchment, closer to the Queensland border and to the visitor economy. Community health and Aboriginal medical services in the region need the service model named. Registration and the unit belong on every clinical file.

Health-corporate and allied-health roles still have to show the district. A selection response about a metropolitan network, with no Northern NSW service, is hard for a local panel to prefer. Disaster response and continuity of care after the 2022 floods are real experience for some clinicians and managers. Only use that example when it was your work, and tie it to the capability the advertisement asks for.

Southern Cross University's Lismore campus recruits professional staff and academics. The Gold Coast campus is a different site. A Lismore application should say Lismore when the role is there. Professional staff applications are scored on the service, the students or the system, and what changed because of the work. Academic applications follow the faculty's research and teaching format. Neither is a clerk-grade letter.

Primary production is the other private market. Norco, the dairy co-operative based in Lismore, is a named food employer. Macadamia, sugar, beef, horticulture and the processors and transport firms around them recruit operations, quality, trades and commercial staff. A production résumé needs the plant or the farm system, the volume, the crew and the standard. It does not need a public sector capability heading.

Councils and the NSW Reconstruction Authority's work in the region recruit project, infrastructure, community and environment roles. Local government applications follow the council's form. State reconstruction and agency roles follow iworkfor.nsw.gov.au. Visitor-economy roles in Byron Bay and along the coast are private hospitality résumés: venue, volume, team and service standard. Do not dress a hotel duty list as a Grade 7/8 statement.

When the Northern Rivers vacancy asks for a cover letter against focus capabilities, that letter is the selection document. Some ads still say selection criteria or ask targeted questions. Follow the ad. Each example needs a decision, who was affected, and what changed, at the grade. A letter that only says you live in Lismore, with no example, does not score.

A one-page APS pitch is for a federal vacancy. It uses Integrated Leadership System language and a short claim. It is the wrong attachment for an NSW focus-capability letter, and the NSW letter is the wrong attachment for APSJobs. If the same person is applying to a Lismore state role and a federal service centre, write both.

Queensland vacancies are close by for people in Tweed. Those use SmartJobs, Administrative Officer grades and Leadership Competencies for Queensland. A Northern Rivers NSW letter cannot be reused for a Gold Coast or Brisbane Queensland role by changing the suburb. The classification system changes at the border.
